recipes for life

Dear New Yorker:

“HAVING GOOD WEATHER HELPS” Oh you don’t say! I’m just wondering who these lovely people are and how they had good weather in California last year. I didn’t go out west to live in a van, I went there to be with Ben. Sure we love each other and love to travel, but I was not ready to go balls out- bathing outside in 30 degree weather and having my privacy reduced to a luxury. There’s just something about trying to work in a city and live in the woods. These cats have it right, and a lot of us do. There is just more planning than any man and woman would ever plan to do. Transition does not happen in a day.  And weather. Weather can certainly make or break you.

**note** this is in reference to a mainstream publication glamorizing VANLIFE. Beautifully written and following a truly sweet couple, the realism was missing. There was an air of something irresponsible about the editorial. In an area ravaged by wildfires, off grid homesteaders become a draw on resources. Paying less tax puts a strain on the roads, and makes evacuations more chaotic. IMHO, it needs a warning label.
